Kort Redick

President, Certified Public Accountant

Born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska, Kort Redick joined Bassler & Redick CPAs, LLC in 2015. As the President and Owner of Bassler & Redick CPAs, LLC, Kort is a strong believer in focusing all efforts on the needs of her clients and staff.

Kort says, "The way we take care of our clients is by keeping up on tax law, so every client can pay the least amount of taxes they are legally entitled to pay. The way we take care of our staff is by not taking on too many clients. We happen to prepare tax returns in this process."

Kort Redick comes from a long family line of accountants. Following three generations of accountants, it is only natural that Kort decided to become an accountant as well. Kort decided to take the family tradition of accounting a step further and became a CPA.

Kort has a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting and a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish. Kort says, "I love puzzles! Accounting is a giant puzzle."

In her free time, Kort enjoys spending time with her kids and her husband. She enjoys hockey, fishing, traveling, downhill skiing, and outdoor sports.

Fun fact: Before Kort decided she wanted to be an accountant, she wanted to be a plastic surgeon.

Ryan Redick

Staff Accountant

Ryan has been a valued member since July 2014! He serves as a Staff Accountant. Ryan is a big hockey fan, he loves that his boys play and happily spends his time at the rink cheering them on, having fun and supporting them every step of the way!

As Kort's husband, Ryan brings a strong team-first attitude to both his work and family life.

Fun Fact: Ryan humorously measures time in hockey seasons and can't pass an ice rink without wondering who's playing!  

Doris Wagoner

Bookkeeper

Doris has been a valued member here at Bassler and Redick CPAs since July 2014! As our Bookkeeper, Doris brings immense wisdom, a sharp eye for detail, and a steady hand that keeps everything running smoothly. Along with being Kort's grandmother, she hold a special place in everyone's heart both at work and home. Doris brings warmth, experience and a no-nonsense approach to getting things done right! 

Don't let her calm demeanor fool you, Doris has a bold side; especially when it comes to food. Around here, she keeps the books balanced and the spice level high. 

Fun Fact: Doris absolutely LOVES hatch green chiles, the hotter the better!

Patty Paulson

Senior Staff Accountant

Senior Staff Accountant, Patty Paulson, has over 20 years of experience. Patty specializes in bookkeeping and enjoys working with many different clients and their businesses.

When asked why she chose a career in accounting, Patty says accounting chose her. Patty was introduced to accounting through a bookkeeping class at a vo-tech. She enjoyed the class so much that she decided she wanted to go to college for accounting. She received a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Bemidji State University in Minnesota.

In her free time, Patty enjoys going fishing and camping.

Fun fact: Patty has been skydiving.

Karen Courtney

Certified Public Accountant

Karen was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska. Karen has received a Bachelor of Mathematics from the University of Alaska Fairbanks and a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting from the University of Alaska Anchorage.

Karen has a fondness for spreadsheets, so it is no surprise that she chose a career in accounting. Prior to becoming an accountant, Karen held multiple hospitality, administrative, and internship positions. Bassler & Redick CPAs, LLC has been thrilled to have Karen as an accountant since 2015.

When she is not at work, Karen enjoys reading murder mysteries, taking naps, and debating on the internet.

Fun fact: Karen's favorite animal is the Komodo dragon, the world's largest lizard. The Komodo dragon's saliva contains fifty different types of bacteria.

Abby Spurlock

Staff Accountant

Abby began working for Bassler & Redick CPAs, LLC in 2018. She attended Claremont McKenna College in California where she received a Bachelor of Economics and Accounting. Abby enjoyed her college accounting classes which inspired her to pursue a job in accounting.

Abby is from Anchorage, Alaska, and after attending college in California, she returned to Anchorage to begin her accounting career. In her free time, Abby enjoys baking.

Fun fact: Abby has a pet hedgehog; he is very cute.

Stephanie Arenas Vargas

Staff Accountant

Stephanie started working for Kort in April 2021. Bringing her experience in budgeting, data analysis. and process management from her time at the University of La Sabana, Constructora Bolívar, and Decathlon. Originally from Cali, Colombia, Stephanie moved to Alaska on February 26, 2026, to pursue new opportunities and enjoy the state’s incredible wildlife!
Stephanie holds a degree in Industrial Engineering from Universidad de La Sabana and an Associate Degree in Accounting from SENA. She is currently pursuing her Enrolled Agent (EA) certification as well as a professional Data Science certification, showing her love for learning and numbers never stops.

Outside of work, Stephanie enjoys outdoor adventures like hiking and soccer, as well as fishing, travel, and trying new foods. She lives with her husband, Zack, and treasures time spent with family.

Fun fact: Stephanie has a brother and they look like twins! She loves talking about everything under the sun and has a deeply spiritual side that adds warmth to every conversation.

Jason Speyerer

Previous Staff Accountant

It is with deep sorrow that we share the passing of our beloved colleague and friend, Jason Speyerer. Jason fought bravely against cancer, but sadly succumbed to the illness in December 2024. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, dedication, and a warm spirit that touched everyone he encountered.
Jason and our president, Kort, were lifelong friends, having known each other since they were 12 years old. Their bond, built on years of shared experiences and mutual respect, is just one of the many relationships Jason nurtured over the years. He was more than just a coworker—he was a friend, a mentor, and an integral part of our team. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all of us at Bassler & Redick CPAs. We find comfort in knowing that Jason’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him, and in the countless lives he touched throughout his career and life.

Jason was born and raised in Anchorage, Alaska. Before working at Bassler & Redick CPAs, Jason worked at Legacy Logistics at the airport. In his free time, Jason enjoys fishing, playing softball, playing soccer, and spending time with his children.

Fun fact: Jason was a two-time state champion in football in Alaska. In 2000, he was part of the only Alaska football team to be ranked in the national poll. They were ranked 9th in the west and were part of the 40 greatest football teams in the nation.

Daniel Cox

Office Manager

Daniel joined our team in 2022. His extensive life experiences and focus on customer interaction has made him a great addition to our team. Clients appreciate his calm manner and the care in which he handles client issues.

As an Airforce brat, Daniel spent his childhood traveling across the US. He finally settled in Alaska in 2022, becoming a valued member of our staff. When not at work he enjoys hiking, playing frolf and reading fantasy novels.

Fun Fact:  Daniel has a twin brother. They are very close.

Nakia Smith

Administrative Assistant

Nakia  is a valued member of the Bassler & Redick CPAs team, bringing her extensive background in customer service and a strong commitment to helping others. Her natural ability to connect with people, take initiative, positive attitude and dedication to making a difference in every interaction ensure she’s a wonderful asset to the firm.

Born and raised in Queens, New York, Nakia moved to Florida in 2019. In August 2024, Nakia and her family embarked on an exciting adventure and made the long drive to Alaska, where they’ve been enjoying the breathtaking mountain views and all the beauty the state has to offer. Outside of work, Nakia is a loving wife and mom who cherishes spending time with her family.

Fun Fact: Nakia loves to bake, though her creations don’t always turn out as planned, she’s learned to embrace the “unique” results.
